  1. In “Learning as Freedom”-an article published on September 5, 2012 in The New York Times- Michael Roth argues that contrary to the “customized playlist of knowledge” of predesigned systems of education that condenses students to one limited field, higher education should act as a doorway to expand our knowledge, skills, and individuality in order for each person to choose his or her own educational path and grow his or her own sense of significance. Roth supports this claim by …
-students should be allowed to act and live like students, not human property.
-learning should be about learning life lessons, not just lessons in school
-education should give students opportunities to find human significance in the world and within work force
-the purpose of education is to give everyone their chance to find their significance in the world
-contrary to predesigned systems of education, higher education should act as a doorway to each person’s own sense of significance.
-students should have the freedom to choose their own education path rather than being imposed “a customized playlist of knowledge.”
-learning should not be condensed into one field; it should allow students to grow and develop their individuality.
